McNeil Pancake Breakfast Order Form

This week your student was given an order form for tickets to the March 4th McNeil Band and Guard Pancake Breakfast. Our band program receives $5 from each ticket sold before the breakfast using these forms, so please look for the form, fill it out, and join the McNeil Band at this fun event!!  Feel free to take orders from friends and neighbors as well. Orders will be filled at school and sent home with your student. Please make checks out to McNeil Band Boosters.

This year’s breakfast will be held from 7:00-11:00 am Saturday, March 4 at St. Philip’s United Methodist Church on Great Oaks Dr. near Cedar Valley Middle School. There will also be a bake sale and a huge silent auction at the event. A slideshow showing high school band activities will be running throughout the morning, and the McNeil Drumline is currently scheduled to perform at 9:00 am with the Jazz Band following at 10:00 am. Other student ensembles will be performing as well.

It should be a lot of fun, so please come out, support our band program, and order your tickets today!  🙂

Round Rock High School Band Concert, February 1

From David Mobley, Head Director at RRHS

Our winter concert is on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:00pm at the PAC.  At that concert we’ll be talking about next year’s marching season, specifically what shows the varsity and junior varsity bands will be doing AND we’ll have a rep in from the travel company to talk about the trip to Indianapolis in November to go back to BOA.
We’d love to have all incoming 8th graders (and their parents) who are headed to RRHS in the fall present for the concert.  Could you help publicize the date or let me know how I could best get that info out to your kiddos?

Congratulations to All Region Band Members (Info sheets attached)

This past Saturday we had 42 students audition to be a part of the TMEA Region 26 MS Region Band. Membership in this group is the highest distinction a student can earn in Middle School Band.

We were lucky to have 32 students place in the Region Band. Some of these students even placed high enough to earn membership into the Region Orchestra, where they will combine with the string players in the Region to give an amazing concert separate of the Region Band.

New Assignments for Beginners in the 2nd Six Weeks

1. Practice Logs! From here on out the students will be graded on how much they practice. This will be logged in MusicFirst. I’ve shown the students how to do it in class, but if they’re having trouble accessing them, please let me know and I can get you on track!

Here is the grading rubric for practice logs:

140 min or greater 110
110-139 min 100
90-109 min 93
70-89 min 86
50-69 min 79
1-49 min 72
0 or Unsubmitted 0

Practice logs are assigned on Fridays and due on the following Thursday. Full credit is given for a practice log that is turned in ON TIME and has at least 4 days of practice. 10 points are deducted for every day late or less than four.

Since the students are doing practice logs, you should see instruments coming home very often!

2) Music Passoffs! Every week the students will have 3 passoffs to complete. They will be assigned on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. These will be done through MusicFirst, which will redirect them to PracticeFirst. Please make sure you are following the tempo directions. Once again, I’ve shown students how to do this in class. Feel free to email me if you have any problems.

We recommend you do these with a computer, but you can actually do it with a tab or smart phone. If you’re using an iPad or iPhone, please use the musicfirst app instead of your browser. The app is FREE!

I’m very excited to see how far the students have come in just 6 weeks. The first concert on Friday, December 2nd is going to be amazing!
